If you are an optimist, you will see this movie as an ode to the resilience and strength of women. If you are a pessimist, you will shrug and say that nothing much ever changes, be it politically or in the relationships of men and women.
What is without doubt is how splendid the cinematography is, the long shots, the interplay of light and shadow. This is not a black and white movie so much as a shades of gray movies. The performances are searingly real.
