Review of Rock & Rule (1983) by Ta2Ooedman — 02 Dec 2008
A truly underrated little gem of a film; and a brilliantly done piece of traditional animation that has been forgotten and overlooked for far too long. The film was definitely a head of it's time for what it attempted to do in feature length animation, but thanks to Unearthed Films brilliant DVD release, I think it's worth for any fan of animated films to check out.
The animation is amazing for it's time, looking very solid and fluid throughout and some of the unique special effects created for the film are just fascinating. The characters are a lot of fun, especially Mok, a grand spoof on glam rockers and Mic Jagger; plus the songs provided for him by Lou Reed are a lot of fun.
The movie's story and a plot are definitely a bit shaky at times, and the unique world of the movie would have been better with some more exposition, but what we have is one hell of a fun ride that's worth checking out.
Highly recomended!
