Review of Rize (2005) by Daniel G — 05 Nov 2007
This is one of my favorite films of all time. It has all the elements a great film should have raising all kinds of emotions out of you. It is a fabulous document of LA suburbs living and how people strive to find an alternative to street violence and crime by being creative and finding meaning in self-expression through their own "dance" style. The competition and dance scenes are exhilarating and gorgeous to look at. And seeing children and all members of the family sharing this krumping is just inspiring.
The score is also pretty amazing. Some of the dancers ended up joining Madonna in her latest album and tour. This is the kind of film I wanna watch to cheer me up. Fantastic medicine.
