The theatrical cut was amazing, the unrated version just as great. The parts that stand out: the fantastic short "Blindsighted" brought to life and an additional scene after the theatricals ending.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it was an alternate ending, just a fantastic scene that should've made the final theatrical version. Without giving away spoilers, this scene definitely ends on a cliffhanger, setting up another sequel perfectly.
