Review of Retreat (2011) by Cristin O — 18 Feb 2012
I'm a fan of Cillian Murphy, and I expected big things out of this movie. Set on an isolated, uninhabited island, a couple take a break so as to sort out personal problems, until a stranger turns up informing them of a viral epidemic which would require them to stay locked up.
The premise is interesting, the suspense is intriguing, infact the last 20 minutes, there's a whole over-load of twists and turns that really confuses you at times, which does work against this movie somewhat? Cillian Murphy and Jamie Bell are wonderfully cast, but where this movie goes wrong is with the casting of Thandie Newton who with her constant type-cast whining, crying and moaning is a complete put-off and not to mention annoying.
It's otherwise a fine suspense thriller.
