Review of Red State (2011) by Craig W — 22 Jan 2012
Think of Kevin Smith, you usually think of comedy stoners and affable slackers. Not so with Red State, a genre-hopper which sees Michael Parks in terrific form as evangelical preacher Abin Cooper, a twisted but charismatic monster that Hitler would possibly have described as "a bit too right wing".
Violent, bloody and occasionally darkly funny, there are minor gripes but they can be overlooked in the face of strong performances from Scrubs' Kerry Bishà (C), John Goodman, Melissa Leo and especially the aforementioned Parks.
