Review of Ragtime (1981) by Trevor R — 03 Jan 2008
Very likely to go down in history as Miles Forman's best film. An astonishing production with remarkable performances by newcomers such as Elizabeth Macgowern, Howard E. Rollins, Mary Steenburgen and Mandy Patinkin, but it really is Cagneys moving final performance you remember most vividly.
Why he didn't win the supporting actor-Oscar this year is beyond understanding. This sumptuous production was later turned into a wonderful Broadway musical.
