Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Stephanie M — 05 May 2011
It's always been a pleasure to watch Dianne Wiest in her dreamy actor-ness. The role of the mother works for her, especially in the Kennedy speech, although something was lost in the packing-away Danny's room moment.
Aaron Eckhart is having a blast, and it shows. His tantrum is perfectly scaled, from his slow heartache to his simple childish need to have a family. I liked how they carved out a role for Sandra Oh. And I'd keep an eye on Miles Telller; his quiet tragedy was more effective at some points than what I expected.
The art in his comic book is excellent - I want to find out who the artist is. I hope John Cameron Mitchell directs more plays-into-movies, he's good at it. But I would recommend seeing the play or reading it before seeing the movie.
