Review of Raajneeti (2010) by Ajayesh S — 19 Jun 2010
This is a mix of Godfather and Mahabharata displaying the unholy nexus of crime, politics and sex in all its tardiness. The tale boils down to the dirtiest game in town, politics and the way the protagonists deal with power and their insurmountable greed for it.
The lynch pins of this story are Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan and Ranbir Kapoor. Though Ajay portrays the role of Karna, it is as far from the Mahabharata version as possible (since Karna was the purest character in mythology).
All the protagonists have their hands dirty and in the end, none are worthy of redemption. The end is also extremely dissatisfying for such a monumental tale and leaves you somewhat flabbergasted that Prakash Jha would end an epic in so insipid a manner.
But all in all, a must watch and definitely shouldn't be missed.
