Review of Psych-Out (1968) by Aj V — 31 Jul 2010
The beauty about old films is that they're a time capsule. An image of a lost era. This film captures the spirit of San Francisco in the late 60's. For those of us too young to have experienced such a time, it provides a glimpse into the unique, garish spectacle.
Flower Power, colorful VW microbuses, pharmaceutical experimentation, and lots of "hip" and "unhip" behavior. Also, this film provides us the opportunity to watch an early performance by Jack Nicholson.
It's a very solid film, although there's nothing in it to make it really "great". The plotline just isn't there. That said, it's worthwhile viewing as a period-piece. .
