Review of Powaqqatsi (1988) by Hillary L — 29 Jul 2007
"po.waq.qatsi (from the Hopi language), n. 1. sorcerer life, an entity, a way of life that consumes the life forces of other beings in order to further its own life.".
Powaqqatsi concentrates more on human aspects than Koyaanisqatsi--essentially the impact on third-world countries by technology and industrialization. There are beautiful images depicting the hard work, religion, crafts, and culture of people from India, Africa, China, Brazil, and others. It's not a judgement on what is good or bad, the film merely observes, presents beauty one would rarely see otherwise.
