Review of Pollock (2000) by Jack F — 09 Dec 2007
As unsparing and caustic a drama as I can remember, Pollock is that rare biopic that makes no concessions to the viewer or the image of whose story it is telling. Jackson Pollock was a troubled, deeply flawed man, and the fact that he produced some of the greatest art of all time is a testament to the uniqueness and relative instability of genius.
Ed Harris is unbelievable in the role, as is Marcia Gay Harden (who won an Oscar for her performance) as Pollock's wife and business manager Lee Krasner. A great film, but not an easy one to swallow.
Harris should direct more, his work here is immaculate. The scenes of Pollock painting are breathtaking.
