Review of Platform (2001) by Paul J — 23 Apr 2010
Platform most definitely tests your patience, but studying the imagery, it became clear that I was in the hands of a skilled auteur. The challenge for first-time viewers might be figuring out who is who, but once you initally get past this, Jia Zhangke has created an important document of a people (and country) in transition.
It's the kind of film that gets better the more you discuss and piece it all together. After falling in love with Jia Zhangke's The World, Platform may be a film that I need to see again.
