Review of Pink Flamingos (1976) by Mike K — 19 Nov 2007
William S Burroughs once called John Waters 'The Pope of Trash'. This film goes a long was to explaining why.
Divine, in her most stellar performance as Babs Johnson the filthiest person alive, certainly lives up to her self-imposed moniker as she and her band of cohorts -Aunt Edie (played brilliantly, once again by Edith Massey), son, Crackers (who just loves his chicken) and companion Cotton set new lows in depravity.
Both Mink Stole and David Lochary are great as the two jealous perverts, Raymond and Connie Marble who attempt to usurp Divine's crown.
A great soundtrack coupled with some memorable dialogue.."oh my God someone has sent me a bowel movement', and the direction of Mr Waters make this one hell of a cinema experience. Love it or Hate it...you won't forget Pink Flamingos in a hurry.
