Review of Persona (1966) by Steen T — 08 Nov 2007
Probably the weirdest and most experimental Bergman film I've seen. Liv Ullmann speaks only a handful of words throughout the whole thing yet manages to convey more meaning with a single look than most actors can with a half hour monologue. Bibi Andersson is equally amazing. And the cinematography is nothing short of stunning: Sven Nykvist is simply a genius.
I couldn't really figure out the ending but it didn't detract from the experience. Possibly my favourite Bergman film so far.
