Review of Paris Is Burning (1991) by Edgars P — 12 Aug 2011
I felt like I had to watch this just to make sense of some of the more obscure references thrown around by the contestants on RuPaul's Drag Race. It was a fascinating and illuminating look at a very specific section of the New York club scene in the late 1980s - I was particularly intrigued by how it was both competitive and accommodating.
I was left feeling that I'd be very interested to see a follow-up made now, to see how much has changed in the 20 years since the film was made - and what's still the same.
