There are vidhu vinod trademarks in the writing but as good as the music is, songs disrupt the flow of the movie and the climax is over dramatized. there is no follow up on the fate of the father and the character of diya mirza which leaves the script hanging.
the best thing about the movie apart from vidya balan is that the script runs parallel to the book without major modifications except time which is unlike devdas. not a big fan of love stories, dark or not and so didnt like the movie too much.
