Review of Outsourced (2007) by Tricia M — 24 Jul 2008
I was worried that this movie would be a pastiche of old Indian stereotypes (e.g. cows in the middle of the road, poverty everywhere, dirt, overbearing mothers, excessively conservative values). Certainly, it is all of that.
However, it's a little better than that and it manages to be quite entertaining. What I like most about the movie is the fact that it pushes beyond the stereotypes to create characters that seem more real - the hero and heroine don't fall in love exactly like they would in a Bollywood movie.
The heroine has her own ambitions. While the hero does learn something about himself and India he doesn't automatically become a convert to all things Indian and remain in India. He remains essentially American, continues to behave like an American and eventually returns to the States.
The script is well-written and witty.
