Review of Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) by Oliver C — 27 May 2014
Only Lovers Left Alive is everything you want in an art horror film. Its moodiness and cynicism is paired with an ingrained love of the beatific and an appreciation of beauty. Tilda Swinton is of course a powerhouse actress applying her craft.
Here she plays the vampire many would aspire to be: the thinker, the sensualist, the loving reader and questioning mind. Jim Jarmusch has given us here yet another example of great modern American auteurship, and a genre work that, as the best often do, rises above its tropes to attain real creative force, not to mention visual style.
