Review of On Guard (1997) by Pavandeep S — 06 Oct 2008
I love historical movies and even flawed films such as Casanova were awesome in my eyes but this was just plain silly. Swashbuckle films always hit me the most due to their style and humour. I know De Broca has a reputation an d he is probably good and I will watch more by him but this film has it all coming, it is so obvious, it was really a bore and never allows anything to arrive that makes intrigued, everything is done like an amateur writer's work, no excitement and the only things that were worth noting is one of the set-pieces where the sword kills through the head which is vulnerable unless you wear an helmet and where the guy gets shot and leave, that was good though nothing new and thee acting of the arch-villain was awesome as well as were his look but his personaluty were barely explored and overall, a disappointment.
The music was utterly fine as well but maybe was badly used.
