Review of Officer Down (2013) by Derek S — 22 Feb 2013
I thought this would be a hidden gem considering the talent involved but sadly its character focus and complexity aren't up to scratch. The film feels like a modern noir which keeps you invested but sadly the end result is all over the place.
Stephen dorff has always been an interesting actor but he's choice of roles have always been inconsistent. This film doesn't allow him to flex any real acting muscle which is a shame because he is surrounded by some solid actors. James woods steals every scene he is in and gives the film some strength.
Miller has grown as a director but he's film lack script development. The stories have twists but you can't care if the script lacks any direction for its characters.
The film is intriguing but to many flaws to keep it alive. Good for a night in but you may find it hard to keep interested in its simplistic plot. To many support players are ignored.
