Review of Nikita (1990) by Shawn M — 08 Apr 2008
Fucking Amazing. I really like Luc Besson's directing style, and he always casts such strong and unique female characters in his film. The character development of Nikita from a junkie turned cop-killer to loving fiance and assassin is great.
Anne Parillaud was perfect in this role, but does she really end up all that different in the end if she's still killing? The good guys may not be so different from the bad guys afterall. A great cameo by Jean Reno (who's character in this film would later inspire the screenplay for Leon: The Professional).
Later remade into Point of No Return with Brigid Fonda, though this I'm sure was way better! Stylistic, unique, fun, and with a little something extra thrown in we don't see much of in modern American cinema.
It's no wonder this movie would go on to inspire cultural remakes and TV series adaptations. 5 Stars!
