Review of Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow (2008) by Majo C — 11 Sep 2008
A worthy attempt to reinvent the Avengers for a new generation. Not the same as the comic. The story has holes if you think too much, including giving Stark (not Pym?) credit for creating Ultron but not being able to stop his own creation.
Why he would've created Iron Avengers knowing Ultron can infect all programming isn't explained, nor is the absence of Thor palpable or the Hulk's fear of Ultron. (Yeah right!) Since I am a huge fan of Ultron, I wanted more about his origin, but he was portrayed very well.
Despite my minor complaints, the animation and storytelling is far better and easier to enter into for newcomers than many previous Marvel animation movies. I like the nods and homages to comic collectors and the originality and independence from that at the same time.
As a lifelong Avengers comic collector, I think this honors the tradition and makes its own unique contribution.
