Review of Never Die Alone (2004) by Shaun R — 21 Jul 2004
I tell ya, if you watch this film, you're gonna feel dirty afterwards. It's loaded to the brim with "gangsta" posturing, lots of grade-A cheddar cheese, and enough drugs and sex to make your hip grandma blush.
You know what though? It's creatively shot(Matthew Libatique is definitely a DP on the rise), Ernest Dickerson has a gift for showing the glamour and grittiness that is so inherent in a life of crime, and DMX, yet again, is a great screen presence.
Fuck, is he an unbelievable assfuck in this movie. The guy personifies the word "snake" like no other..............Okay, so it's a poor excuse for a film, but I don't think it claims to be an art picture.
I've certainly seen enough boring films recently to recognize when I've been entertained, and dammit, I was entertained..
