Review of Mother Night (1996) by Aren B — 19 Jan 2010
Not just an amazing story, from one of America's great writers and thinkers, but a great film in its own right. Keith Gordon makes this film look and feel alive and mournful, but he's wise enough to leave in a few moments of pitch-black humor, such as when Campbell is found out living in his solitary state in 1960 by an old Nazi group.
Yeah, it's one of those movies. Also, Nolte, Sheryl Lee (or Laura Palmer), and Alan Arkin are friggin' brilliant here. I'd even go as far as to say it's one of Nolte's very best performances.
