Review of Monster in the Closet (1986) by Alexander H — 21 Jun 2007
This is most certainly a horror movie and, to less extent, a comedy. But to call it a 'horror-comedy' in the ilk of 'Shaun of the Dead' or 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn' is just wrong, as there are no gags or direct jokes.
What's fun about this movie is how seriously the characters handle it's hokey, closet-monster, plot, and how simultaneously ridiculous and stereotypical most of them are. A veteran of cheesy horror movies should easily recognize the humor which is abundant here, but the monster-movie uninitiated might mistake this for a bad film.
