Review of Mississippi Mermaid (1969) by Eric K — 15 Jul 2010
Movies like this make me glad I've avoided marriage up to this point. :) A story about a man desperately in love with a woman who continually screws him over, time and time again. Conned into marriage and robbed of millions, he gets back together with her only to be talked into selling his business, before being poisioned to his deathbed.
Unconditional love. With the plot of this film, it would have been better if Louis had wound up alone, dying in a snowed-in cabin at the end of this film. Such a fate would have been fitting for his obsessive passion and willful blindness.
It is said that beautiful, manipulative women can get anything they want from men. This film is a stark, bleak, painful portrayal of that mantra.
