Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Andrea Z — 13 Jan 2009
Absolutely excellent gangster film. Just like most Coen movies it has a wonderful comedy element to it that keeps a nice balance between the dark dealings of the mobsters that are the films protagonists.
Gabriel Byrne is a strong and likable lead as he shows th audience the workings of gangster politics in 1929. Albert Finney, and Coen regulars Jon Polito, Steve Buscemi and John Turturro all keep this wonderful gangster classic entertaining, whether it be unexpected shoot outs to 'Danny Boy' or quick-thinking quips from many of the films wise characters, this film is truly one of the Coens' best.
A genuine classic.
