Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Brett M — 12 Mar 2009
It's not like I don't like the Godfather, okay? I just think the Coens did mob movies the best. This is a spectacularly filmed and scripted run at the underbelly of society, doused is humor best described as impenetrably black.
Byrne's performance absolutely grabs you, and armed with the Coen's dialogue he refuses to let go. This one's a corker, all building to a stunning twist: not of events, but of character. "What heart?".
