Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Adrian S — 25 Apr 2010
The first time you see this movie you just kind of sit-back and appreciate the aesthetic pleasures of it all; the gorgeous cinematography and set design, the hard-boiled, high-stylized dialogue, the over-the-top cartoon violence, and the great performances.
The second or third time through you try to wrap your head around the story's numerous plot twists and what's motivating these characters and you realize that the Coen brothers are amazing screenwriters, capable of telling a sad story of two men falling out of love amidst a noir-gangster tale that ranks up there with the best of its kind.
