Critics judged this movie harshly, probably because you have to be a bit of a sentimental fool to enjoy it, and probably because it's a date flic. It's goopy and romantic, lighter fare to be sure.
But it's a charming mixture anyway. Great acting, perfect pacing, and moments of good-natured humor make it sweet like cake and frosting, not candy. There's not a lick of contrivance in the plot, something refreshing in a tale of romance.
