I never check the ratings of a film before I watch it, mainly because I don't want a movie with bad ratings to influence my decision. So I actually enjoyed this movie, and I don't understand the negative reviews.
There were some small issues with the film, but the story was sound. They could've spent a little more money on the special effects. Overall, I recommend it.
