Review of Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018) by Martin Q — 21 Jul 2018
With the rise of anime film successes from Ghilibi films to Makato Shinkai's "Your Name", Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is brilliant flower among them as well. Its truly a beautiful tale of an imaginative fantasy world that's filled with dragons, war, and political strike yet so beautiful and colorful at the same time.
The story is an emotionally lush drama about love, hope, and motherhood through timeless struggles which will bring you to tears at its climax. Time is a key theme of this film and it portrays the passing of time eloquently enough to feel natural yet makes you feel left behind on an emotional level.
Highly recommend watching it with anyone anime fans or not, they won't be disappointed. Mothers watching this will bawl and others will dial to hear the voice of their moms.
