Review of Mamma Roma (1962) by Elsa N — 01 Nov 2009
A stunning performance from Anna Magnani as a Roman prostitute who when her pimp marries a local country girl goes and finds her son Ettore and moves away to Rome where she starts a fruit and veg stall on a market.
Pretty soon however her pimp is back demanding she go back on the game in order to make him some more money. An incredible film by Pier Paolo Pasolini in which Magnani bonds beautifully with her son played by Ettore Garofolo and shot entirely on location as Rome recovered from the ravages of the war.
