Review of Madhouse (1974) by R.john X — 22 Dec 2011
Weird little movie. Peter Cushing might be the bad guy. Vincent Price might be the baddie. Adrienne Corri might be Madeline Kahn. Robert Quarry might be the killer. All the giallo fetishes are here. The cape, the tilted hat, the shadows, and the ubiquitous slipping on of the black leather gloves.
All creepy and effective. The killer's mask is a nice touch as well. The ending is completely worth it for Price's scene chewing speech. That and the last line of the movie - "Sour creame and Red Herrings!" Faye really steals the show with her wig, spider babies, and creepy Bava lighted basement apartment.
