Review of Mad Dog and Glory (1993) by Aron K — 30 Mar 2009
Kind of a weird film. All in all it wasn't so bad, and it was cool to see Murray play a bad guy. De Niro plays his character very well, a weird guy, lonely. The story line is very basic, a little different but nothing to get too excited about.
It would be interesting to see the original cut as apparently a lot of the scenes were re-shot after test audiences didn't enjoy De Niro playing an entirely helpless guy. It's not really a comedy and not really a strong drama, so it's one of those films left in the middle and I don't tend to fall in love with films that haven't a strong leaning to some kind of genre.
It's typical of a lot of late 80's and early 90's films that tried to do the whole artistic, yet undefinable genre. I don;t know that I would recommend it to many, but I didn't mind watching it.
