Review of Lost in America (1985) by Kevin D — 09 Dec 2011
Are we witnessing the birth of a cliche when first Brooks trundles onto the freeway in his enormous Winnebago to the tune of "Born to Be Wild"? Well... yes, but this remains an effective scene. Brooks honks and gives a thumbs-up to a passing biker, who flips him off. In Brooks we see a man who has decided that he is going to go off the grid, to drop out of the rat race, to give the finger to the establishment and live life on his own terms, but naturally, being a prudent man, he is doing so on a firm financial footing. Of course, this dream of true independence will turn out to be more elusive than he expects.
I am lacking for a naturally segue, but Hagerty's performance is funnier than Brooks', which is a feat.
