Review of London Road (2015) by Cesare M — 07 Dec 2015
Even if musicals aren't your thing, you should see London Road. It is unlike anything you've ever seen. Writer Alecky Blythe has taken the speech from actual interviews she conducted about a series of murders in Ipswich in 2006.
The result is a verbatim musical than manages to capture the rhythms and nuances of human speech perfectly. This is extended to the direction and choreography to create an enthralling, pulsating film.
When the words and music are in sync, London Road is one of the most unique cinematic experience you're likely to have. It loses a bit of that near the end, as the rhythmic music gives way to standard speech, but what comes before is so good this barely matters.
