Review of Local Hero (1983) by Mike R — 11 Jul 2007
You don't enjoy this film. You fall in love with it. Still my favourite film, and the one I can watch endlessly without tiring. What ever happened to Peter Reigert? A subtle, funny, charming actor.
And Burt Lancaster is, well, Burt Lancaster. If I believed in God, he would be played by Burt Lancaster. Great lines, completely original characters, melancholy, whimsy, delight and surprise, all wrapped up in a terrifically inventive little tale.
Perfection.
