Review of Light Sleeper (1992) by Eric R — 17 May 2011
Its such a shame that Paul Schrader is only really known for his contribution to Taxi Driver. Along with Rolling Thunder, Hardcore, and this, Schrader has proven that he really has a unique perspective on the the gritty undertones that inhabit our world.
Light Sleepr is a fascinating film about a high class drug dealer whom comes to terms with himself and his profession. Usually I hate voice over as a device but it really works well here. Dafoe's character is intricately displayed using voiceover and as a viewer you really begin to care about his plight as a character.
The story's seedy pre-guiliani setting only enhances the thematic elements of the film...
