Review of Lantana (2001) by Cate M — 25 Apr 2008
Brilliant and believable, a work of art in every sense. The performances are all quite amazing, especially from Kerry Armstrong and Anthony LaPaglia, and the script is a subtle and hypnotic thread that draws you in. The cinematography feels lush and evocative but is firmly rooted in natural light, and without artificial device.
And lastly, the score from Paul Kelly is possibly my most favourite score from any movie, managing to be both musically beautiful while also abstract and evocatively sonic; more than any other film score I own, it instantly transports me, the sound of the warm, dark, dangerous tangle of Lantana.
