Review of Lake Mungo (2009) by Dan T — 12 Jan 2012
Lake Mungo is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time and by far the best After Dark HorrorFest movie. Half documentary and half footage and pictures, this movie explains about the disappearance of a young girl at a vacation house. The family of the girl makes up most of the cast; mother, Father and brother of the girl.
The thing about Lake Mungo is that it's scared the living crap out of me without any major "jump scares." Most horror movies today rely on cheap jump scares to get a reaction. While this can be fun, Mungo's style is so brilliantly done that it doesn't need to rely on the jump scare form of "horror". The movie is also perfectly paced.
It's extremely hard to talk about the movie without spoilers, but let's just say this: you will not be disappointed by how brilliant it's ending is or it's lead up to it.
