Review of Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (1982) by Wayne Z — 30 Aug 2008
Intended as a feminist staement or something, apparently. I don't think The Stains really do female bands any justice - they all play in that uncomfortable, ridged way that some girls do (I'm not refering to Joan Jett here).
The Looters, on the other hand, featuring ex-Sex Pistols and Clash members (with Ray Winstone on vocals!) are much better and make this film an interesting curio. Ray plays the same character as he does in Scum basically.
Also look out for Randy Black & The Metrosquad (if you know who they are). In the end The Stains sanitise their sound, rip off a Looters song and get played on MTV - the sell-outs!
