Review of Kawa (2010) by Kyhere H — 06 Jul 2012
I had high hopes for this one but it disappoints. It's nothing more than a histrionic soap opera. I'd hoped for insight into how sexual orientation affects Maori customs and tradition. Instead this offers every tired cliche including a scene where the mother spies her son embracing his gay lover on a beach (crashing waves and everything).
There's even a child in mortal peril as the tide comes in. Well - at least you get to see beautiful New Zealand scenery and a hottie as Kawa's son.
