Review of Jubilee (1978) by Matt E — 08 May 2009
This is the cinematic version of a punk rock song --- ragged, nihilistic, anarchistic. And its stars include various punk rock singers. When released in 1977, it was edgy and startling. Now, more than 30 years later, it seems dated.
Grating and irritating. Of course, like punk rock, this movie's goal was always to be grating and irritating. Today, it's an old-fashioned kind of thing....which goes against the don't-think-of-the-future ethos of the high point of punk.
