Review of Ju-on: The Grudge (2002) by Grai S — 30 Oct 2017
Absolutely phenomenal movie. What it lacks in "scare" value, it makes up for in scening, story-telling, use of plot devices, and a very Japanese style of "out-of-order" story telling that keeps you guessing what is truly going on.
Watching Ringu before watching Ju-On: The Grudge helped me understand the movie better, I feel. Japanese horror movies, especially from this era, are very different than American ones. Going into it knowing that helps you follow the movie much better.
I only jumped a few times, but I stayed on the edge of my seat trying to grasp and understand the horrors that were told through multiple stories / perspectives in the movie.
