Review of Jean de Florette (1986) by Diane J — 07 Feb 2009

I'm usually not into the "epic" genre, but this movie, together with its sequel "Manon de source" blew me away! Whether it was the storyline, the beautifully shot scenery of the Provence region, the brilliant acting (Daniel Auteuil giving what can only be described as a superb performance) or the view into the depths of the human soul, I cannot say.

Perhaps a combination of all the above. It only just got to see this movie, 22 years after it was filmed, and I cannot believe that I missed out on such a masterpiece for such a long time. It is surely a film that I won't forget so quickly.
