Review of Inland Empire (2006) by Alex G — 08 Jul 2008
As I've become more of a movie buff, I've developed a taste for those few films that explore the dark and haunting underbelly of the human psyche. It was through Eraserhead that I discovered David Lynch, and I then proceeded to watch Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway.
Nothing, however, could have prepared me for what Inland Empire had in store for me. This film is three hours long and the pacing is slow (which makes it seem even longer), but the patience it takes to watch this pays off in a big way.
As a jaded film buff, I thought I'd seen it all and that no movie could get under my skin or scare me anymore. I was very, very wrong. This movie provides the most compelling proof of what I've been saying ever since I first saw Eraserhead - Lynch is the new Kafka.
