I actually liked this better than the first film, as it gives the background story into how things became IA 1. Of particular sadness is how young police Cadet Yan got entered into Triad life and just cannot seem to get out of it no matter what happens.
Shawn Yue's performance as Yan is one for the ages. Sam's rise up the Triad ladder from a mid-level guy to head honcho is a really interesting back story. While it doesn't have the star power of the first, this one definitely brings home the bacon.
