Review of In Tranzit (2008) by Kurt A — 20 Mar 2010
This film has a top notch cast, director, and subject: WWII effects upon the survivors.
It is unique in that the story follows Russian women who are unexpectedly placed in charge of German survivors (males of course) of the Leningrad siege.
The theme is unique for WWII fils as the war has ended and we are left with a Russian female guards with male German prosoners. The premise is that the Russian female guards were lacking sex as their previous inmates were Russian women. The Germans will do that task.
John Malcovich plays John Malkovich very well. Vera Farmiga is the prison commandant. She falls in love with her chosen German and that sets the stage for a small nude scene, filmed with class rather than sex. Nice scene, but disappointing; it could have been so much more. I saw little other purpose for the film.
The same can be said for the movie as a whole really.
